Owners of restored monuments from South Moravia will compete for the title

Brno - Owners of monument-protected buildings and works will again compete for the title of the Best Restored Cultural Monument of the South Moravian Region. Those who completed the restoration in 2019 can not only win the title but also receive up to 150,000 crowns. After today’s meeting of the council, regional councilor Tomáš Soukal informed journalists.

"Monuments that underwent a complete restoration or restoration of a coherent part in 2019 can be proposed for the competition. Any citizen can submit proposals, and professionals in the field as well as mayors of the municipalities where the monuments are located will also be invited to make nominations. The owner of the proposed object will become a participant in the competition," said Soukal.

Entries can be submitted until February 21. The competition is divided into three categories: large buildings, small buildings, and artistic works.

"The jury of the competition, which will include representatives from the Faculty of Architecture at VUT Brno, the Department of Art History at MU Brno, holders of the title Knight of Care for Monuments in the South Moravian Region, the Association of Historical Settlements of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia, and the Moravian Museum, will decide on the allocation of prizes and their ranking," Soukal said.

The commission may also award a special prize of 25,000 crowns to the owner of a cultural monument that stands out this year, for example, due to the quality of repairs, extraordinary history, or unique owner involvement. It may also grant the title Knight of Care for Monuments in the South Moravian Region to a person who has a permanent and deep interest in monuments in the region.

A Public Award will also be presented, with the winner receiving 60,000 crowns. The public will decide through SMS voting between March 16 and March 31 of this year. The aim of the competition remains to motivate owners of cultural monuments for exemplary restoration and to showcase the monuments to the public. This year's edition is the thirteenth.
