Brno - The South Moravian Region today awarded the best restored monument of the region for the last year, which is the historic Swiss Chalet near Adamov in the Blanensko area. It was built in 1850. It is now used as an ecological center by the organization Brontosaurus. The building is unique in its architecture. It was originally constructed as an iron spa. The winner of the competition was decided by public voting, said Jan Chmelíček, spokesman for the region, to ČTK. The Swiss Chalet received 2241 votes and thus won with a substantial margin. As a prize, it received a reward of 150,000 crowns. The money will be used for further restoration of this building, specifically for the renovation and modification of the hayloft. Over time, this dilapidated structure will become an ecological classroom. Brontosaurus aims to transform the Swiss Chalet into a modern eco-center with classrooms, a tea house, club rooms, and quality accommodation facilities, serving, among other things, for organizing nature schools. Environmentalists also want to preserve a traditional restaurant in the building. The object has a new roof. The original one was in very poor condition. The Swiss Chalet is unmistakable in its architecture. It is a brick, timber, and stone structure built in the Swiss style. It has appeared in several films. For many years, the building was owned by the Socialist Youth Union (SSM), and after 1989, it was the subject of prolonged legal disputes. The object is part of the steelworks complex Stará huť, which is the oldest technical monument in Moravia. A total of 30 objects and artworks were nominated for the award of the best restored monument. The best restored piece among artworks, whose owner will receive 50,000 crowns, is the restored statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from Jedovnice. The money was received by the town. Last year, the main prize was awarded to the château in Letovice in the Blanensko area, which its owner managed to restore literally from ruins. From the winning amount, a wedding suite was created in the château.
