Kutná Hora - Kutná Hora wants to sell the former Teller sugar factory located on Čáslavská street. A private investor has shown interest in the dilapidated premises, intending to transform it into a residential complex. The purchase contract will be approved by the councilors on Tuesday, with a price of five million crowns, Mayor Josef Viktora (ANO) informed journalists today.

The sugar factory, which ceased operations in the first half of the 20th century and has long been without any use by the city, is a heritage-protected site. Therefore, the buyer is not allowed to demolish it. According to Viktora, the site is in poor condition and will require hundreds of millions of crowns in investment. "It is totally dilapidated, without windows. There are also safety issues because the plaster is falling off. We had to partially repair the roof to prevent leaks and further damage," the mayor reminded.

The purchase contract includes a condition that the buyer must obtain a building permit within two years and begin construction. If this is not met, the deposit will be forfeited. Additionally, the city has a right of first refusal on the building, according to Viktora.

The buyer is, according to Viktora, an individual who has experience with similar projects. The mayor did not want to reveal who it is yet. "It has not been approved by the council yet," he added.

The former city administration wanted to sell the sugar factory to the Belgian development company ILD, but the deal eventually fell through. It was expected that the premises would be renovated with funds from a grant for the non-profit organization Zlatý pruh Polabí. However, the organization did not receive the grant.

One of the first industrial sugar factories in Bohemia is located in the Karlov district next to the Klimeška sports complex. It consists of three separately accessible wings with a common attic space. In the past, the building was used as a residential house, containing 15 apartments and three non-residential spaces. After 1990, the charity was based in the building, but it is now empty.
