Kutná Hora - The Kutná Hora city council approved the sale of the former Teller sugar factory on Čáslavská Street yesterday. A private investor has shown interest in the dilapidated premises, intending to convert it into a residential complex. The city will sell the sugar factory, which ceased to serve its purpose in the first half of the 20th century, for five million crowns.

The building is a protected monument, so the buyer cannot demolish it. According to Mayor Josef Viktora (ANO), the premises are in poor condition and will require significant investment.

The purchase agreement stipulates that the buyer must obtain a building permit and begin construction within two years. If this condition is not met, the deposit will be forfeited. Furthermore, the city has a right of first refusal on the building, according to Viktora.

The former city leadership wanted to sell the sugar factory to the Belgian development company ILD, but the deal eventually fell through. It was expected that the premises would be renovated using funds from a grant for the non-profit company Zlatý pruh Polabí. However, the company did not receive the grant.

One of the first industrial sugar factories in Bohemia is located in the Karlov district next to the Klimeška sports complex. It consists of three independently accessible sections with a shared attic space. In the past, the building was used as an apartment building, containing 15 apartments and three non-residential spaces. After 1990, a charity operated in the building, but it is now vacant.
