Brno - The anti-atomic shelter beneath Špilberk Castle will be open to the public every day except Monday starting Thursday. Visitors will receive maps at the entrance and will move around the facility on their own, said Pavel Paleček, director of the American fund that has the shelter borrowed from the city, to journalists. The shelter will feature an audiovisual exhibition with English subtitles for visitors. It consists of stories about the history of the shelter, its technical operation, and the broader history of Brno.

Mornings will be reserved for schools, afternoons for the public, and evenings for enthusiasts and cultural events. The exhibition also includes unique functionalist tables used by the leadership of Brno at the New Town Hall since 1935, as well as the doors from the execution chamber of the former regional prison in Cejl.

"Alongside the exhibition, the retro Milk Bar of chef Marcel Ihnačák, which is part of the exhibition but can also be visited separately, will also start partial operations,"
said the project's author and historian Pavel Paleček.

Visitors to the shelter can currently look forward to the achievements of socialist cuisine - Turkish coffee, termix, or "Vlašák" served on a paper plate. In the fall, specialties inspired by history will be added. Starting in September, the organizers are also preparing a cultural program for the hall that has been created inside the shelter.

The shelter was built during World War II to protect the city's residents from bombings. After the war, it served as a wine wholesale market, but after February 1948, the communists built a 1500-meter extensive command shelter there for key city and regional officials, which remained secret until the fall of the regime. The shelter, designated 10-Z, has access from Husova Street. The shelter, which is owned by the city, is part of the regional rescue system.
