Guided Walk in Opava
The walk will be led by architectural historians Martin Strakoš and Romana Rosová, authors of the Architecture Guide to Opava.

The number of participants is limited to 150 people. Anyone interested in participating must register in person at the Fiducia or by calling +420 596 117 312 Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, no later than June 10, 2012. NO REGISTRATION, NO PARTICIPATION!

Transportation for 50 participants who register as soon as possible will be provided by a historic bus with commentary for a fee of 50 CZK. Other registered participants will need to arrange their own transportation. The walk will begin at 14:00 in front of the Opava East railway station, Janská Street. From the Opava East railway station, we will head towards the historical core of the city. We will explore both the Lower and Upper Squares, the park circuit, and the historic and newly built streets. We will focus on the buildings of well-known builders and famous architects, among which it is necessary to mention the Viennese architect Leopold Bauer, a native of Krnov, as well as the local architect Otto Reichner. Our interest will not be limited to buildings from the 20th century. We will also observe how this once very grand historic city dealt with the destruction of buildings at the end of World War II, what monuments have survived to the present day, and how war damages have been repaired in the architectural and urban development of Opava. From the center, we will head out to further landmarks of the city, including, for example, the Church of St. Hedwig or the former headquarters of the Fiedor Company, famous for its wafer production. We anticipate that the walk will last 2 to 3 hours.
