Brno - The Brno Cinema Art is returning to the building on Cihlářská Street after reconstruction. Repairs were supposed to take only a few months, but ultimately took two years due to the discovery of asbestos. The cinema will ceremoniously open on Friday, September 13, with a screening of the silent film Sunrise accompanied by live music from the IQ string quartet and pianist Jana Nevoralová, Jan Gerych from the Brno Tourist Information Centre announced in a press release.
During the reconstruction, Cinema Art operated in temporary premises on Pekařská Street, before relocating to the Galerie of the Brno Tourist Information Centre on Radnická Street. However, screenings will not end here; irregular screenings will take place, for example during various festivals.
In the newly renovated building of Cinema Art, visitors can look forward to a redesigned foyer with a new ticket office and new restrooms. The small hall is now air-conditioned. The café Café Art will also return, and the entire cinema is fully wheelchair accessible.
After the reopening and the film screening on Friday, September 13, there will be a film marathon starting at 10:00 PM, ending at midnight from Sunday to Monday and offering audiences 100 hours of film. "The number is not random; in 1919, Art began screening for the very first time, and that's why we will celebrate these 100 years with precisely 100 hours of film," stated cinema manager Milan Šimánek.
Audiences will have the opportunity to purchase accreditation for the entire marathon as well as for individual films. Those who spend the most time in the halls may win a season ticket to the cinema. The marathon program will feature popular Czech and foreign films, such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Casablanca, and Smoke.
