Brno - The reconstruction of the Brno cinema Art will be prolonged; after the removal of asbestos, it is necessary to repair the interior. Overall, the renovation will cost more than 24 million crowns. The Art will return to its original building on Cihlářská street no earlier than December, Adéla Nováková, spokesperson for the Tourist and Information Center in Brno (TIC) Brno, informed CTK today.

The repair of the building was first delayed due to the discovery of asbestos, which had to be disposed of first. Only then could the reconstruction continue. "During these works, it was found that one of the cinema's walls is structurally compromised. It had to be rebuilt, which caused further delays," said CTK spokesperson Filip Poňuchálek. New ceilings, electrical installations, floors, and painting need to be done in the interior. The original cost of the reconstruction will increase by eight million crowns due to this.

The cinema is currently operating in temporary premises on Radnická street under the name No Art. The municipal contribution organization TIC Brno, as the cinema operator, is negotiating with the municipality to increase the contribution for operation during the reconstruction. "Delays threaten the very functioning of the cinema," Nováková stated. Brno city councilors will therefore consider increasing the contribution by more than two million crowns, discussions will take place in September.

The extension of the reconstruction will also affect the international film festival Brněnská 16, which will take place from November 10 to 13. The temporary premises on Radnická street have a capacity of only 44 people, so part of the main program will be screened in the lecture hall of the Museum of Applied Arts and in the Břetislav Bakala Hall. Attendees will find accompanying programs at the café Praha and in Bunker 10-Z on Husova street. Due to problems with the reconstruction, the organizers have chosen the theme "It’s a Fight" for this year's edition.
