Karlovy Vary – The leadership of the City Architecture Office (KAM) in Karlovy Vary will be taken over by Karel Adamec. This decision was made by the city council based on the results of the tender. Adamec will replace Petr Kropp, who was dismissed by the council this February. Adamec has worked at KAM and was tasked with managing it since Kropp's dismissal. He therefore assumed the position immediately after being appointed by the council, said Deputy Mayor Tomáš Trtek (ANO) to reporters today.

The commission, largely composed of experts from the field, evaluated the applications of four candidates. It recommended Adamec. According to Trtek, his appointment will ensure the continuity of the office's work. Adamec also convinced Trtek with his proposals that could lead to improvements in KAM's operations, focusing on the practical side of the architecture office's functioning. "But the priority remains KAM's expert opinion on city matters," Trtek stated. Within a specified timeframe, he must also obtain authorization in the field of architecture. According to Adamec, this should happen this fall.

The City Architecture Office is an advisory body to the city, both for buildings financed by the city and for private ones. It also prepares conceptual materials regarding the architectural appearance of the spa town. KAM is, for example, preparing a study for the use of the former waterworks, the so-called Theater Boulevard study, the space between the Imperial Baths and the Hot Spring Colonnade, as well as studies for projects that the city is preparing for the ITI grant program.

The February dismissal of KAM director Kropp and also the director of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, Petr Polívka, triggered a number of protests from the public and the opposition in the city council. The city leadership justified the move by stating poor communication and the need to find new impulses for the operation of both city organizations.
