Jáchymov (Karlovy Vary) - If Jáchymov manages to obtain all the subsidies it is applying for, it will receive 50 million crowns for the transformation of the city. This is an amount that matches its annual budget. The leadership of Jáchymov intends to use the money for the completion of the revitalization of the square or the repair of the retaining walls. A decision on the allocation of subsidies is still pending for two projects totaling approximately 18 million crowns. Jáchymov's mayor, Bronislav Grulich (TOP 09), told ČTK. "When we add it all up, the subsidies could reach a total of 50 million crowns. Such funds have never been obtained by Jáchymov before. If we implement all three projects concerning the Mining Square, the center of the city would truly undergo significant changes. Essentially changes that Jáchymov has never experienced before," said Grulich. The city with 2,800 inhabitants is operating this year with a budget of 50 million. If the subsidies are obtained, all projects would need to be completed by this October. The city has already managed to secure an approximately eight-million crown subsidy for the revitalization of a part of the Mining Square, which was supposed to have started last year. "The work was delayed due to complications in the tender process of the Road and Highway Directorate of the Karlovy Vary Region, which is financing the second part of the project with approximately ten million crowns. However, the revitalization should be completed on schedule this year," the mayor stated. Jáchymov has also been promised twenty million for the repairs of the retaining walls. On the other hand, it will wait until May to see if it obtains a subsidy for repairs in two other areas immediately adjacent to the square - Mincovní Street and the area around St. Joachim's Church. This autumn, the repair of the first-class road in the turns above Jáchymov is also expected to be completed, where the Road and Highway Directorate of the Karlovy Vary Region is also investing. It was originally supposed to be completed back in the autumn of 2014, but work was disrupted by the discovery of a mining structure.
