Havlíčkův Brod

Havlíčkův Brod - The town hall in Havlíčkův Brod has started another phase of the renovation of the city park Budoucnost. The network of paths will be improved, with resting spots and piers by the ponds being added. The work, costing 77.3 million CZK, will be completed next summer, with over 25 million CZK provided by European grant funds. Workers are currently cutting down trees that are in poor health and do not fit into the architectural concept. In today's announcement, the city urged the public to respect the markings and instructions of the people working there for their own safety.

The park, with mature trees and ponds, extends into the center, covering nearly 30 hectares along Chotěbořská Street. The city, with 23,700 residents, has had the central part of the park with a dense network of paths developed in recent years behind the square.

Mayor Zbyněk Stejskal (ODS) described the Park Budoucnost as the heart of the public space in the city. "We are now focusing not only on repairs and new paths but also on the comfort of people, so that families with children, sports enthusiasts, and seniors can find their place here. Access to water, new benches, and a safer environment will give the park a completely new dimension," he stated.

In addition to repairing the paths, there will be new furniture in the park, as well as resting areas and play areas for children. The modifications of the banks will improve access to the Hastrman, Obora, and Očko ponds, where wooden piers will also be placed. New trees and shrubs will be planted. "We wanted the park to be not just a passage of greenery, but a vibrant place where residents would like to come regularly," said Deputy Mayor Libor Honzárek (TOP 09). New trees and shrubs will be planted.

The park was founded by the Garden Society Budoucnost in 1889, and the city took it over for maintenance in 1919. In 1924, a monument to Karel Havlíček Borovský, sculpted by Bohumil Kafka, was unveiled there. The viewing wooden Šupich gazebo is listed in the heritage catalog from the late 19th century. The cascade of ponds on the Cihlářský stream transitions the park into the suburban Vlkov forests, which cover approximately 50 hectares.
