Ostrava - Professional firefighters, paramedics, and guards have a new facility in the building of the Integrated Response Center in the Ostrava neighborhood of Jih. The construction between Františka Formana and Kaminského streets cost 250 million crowns, and most of the expenses were covered by European subsidies, spokeswoman for the regional office Petra Špornová said to journalists today.

The complex of the integrated center is the fourth facility that the region has put into operation in these weeks, others were opened in the town of Albrechtice in Bruntál, at the Mošnov airport, and in Třinec in the Frýdek-Místek region. In total, there are thirteen centers in the region where components of the integrated rescue system are located together. The region plans to build more.

The three-story Integrated Response Center is equipped with a training tower and training or sports areas, for example. It also has facilities for the cynology and hippology of the municipal police. The complex includes 18 kennels for dogs and a training ground and stables for 14 horses with a riding arena. The area also includes a reconstructed multipurpose playground that will be used by students of Františka Formana Primary School in the morning and by security forces in the afternoon.

"The Response Center in Ostrava-Jih is specific in many ways. Due to its layout and top-notch facilities, the building could become a focal point in the event of emergencies where security components from other stations can concentrate," said Deputy Governor Josef Babka (KSČM), who is responsible for security.

The facility now also houses the WASAR fire protection unit, which specializes in rescue and operations on water surfaces and is used in cases of disasters, natural calamities, or other emergencies. Rescuers also have a team of trained rescuers focused on highly dangerous infections at the center. These individuals typically respond to patients, but the operations center can continually utilize them, especially for patients with highly contagious diseases.
