Liberec - Liberec will pay 64 million crowns for the renovation of its part of the riverbank near the county seat in the lower center of the city. Work is expected to start no later than summer and finish next year. The city hall received only one bid in the tender, from the company PK Advisory, which is currently also revitalizing the area around the dam for the city. Today, the deputy mayor of Liberec for strategic development and grants, Šárka Prachařová (for ANO), informed journalists about the results of the tender.
The deputy is unsure why there was such little interest in the contract. "I don't know how to explain why more companies did not apply, but in some tenders, it happens that only one candidate applies. However, this one fulfilled all requirements," Prachařová added.
Mayor Jaroslav Zámečník (mayors for the Liberec region) believes that one of the reasons could be that there are many tenders and few companies. "I know from the Association of Towns and Municipalities that there are quite a few tenders announced. Generally, many municipalities are issuing them. This is because they had large deposits in their accounts and are now starting, also under the influence of the war and concerns that prices will rise, to release a considerable amount of money. So, a large number of contracts have been announced, and everyone is hurrying before it gets more expensive," the mayor told journalists today.
Even though Liberec received only one bid for the riverbank renovation, the city council is satisfied with the price from PK Advisory. It is about ten million crowns below the maximum allowable price. Part of the costs for the renovation of the area by the Nisa River will be covered by Liberec from European grants, which should amount to over 20 million crowns. "The share of the grant is estimated at around 30 percent of the total project costs," Prachařová added.
The company PK Advisory will renovate the area between the streets of 1. máje, U Nisy, U Jezu, and the surroundings of the administration of the protected landscape area (CHKO) of the Jizera Mountains. Perhaps the most significant change will be the elimination of the city parking lot and the expansion of the adjacent park. The city hall's project also includes the construction of a footbridge near the CHKO headquarters, which will connect the regional part of the riverbank with the city part.
The renovations in the part of the riverbank that belongs to the city will follow the revitalization of the regional part completed last year. The region paid almost 155 million crowns for the renovation of the area in front of its office, where there used to be mainly a parking lot. Now there is a dozens of meters long rest staircase allowing access to the Lužická Nisa, a bridge over the river, a children's playground, a fountain, or a sculpture by Magdalena Jetelová in the form of four giant feet. Additionally, the entrance to the regional building was completely renovated, and the adjacent park has also been renewed.
