Plzeň - Companies are likely to postpone some construction projects until after the spread of the coronavirus subsides. Eurovia, for example, has delayed the start of the reconstruction of French Street in Plzeň, which was scheduled to begin today. The reason is the restrictions related to the spread of the coronavirus, said Adriana Jarošová, spokesperson for the Plzeň city hall, to ČTK today. The city will inform about the new repair date in due time.

According to Deputy Mayor Pavel Šindelář (ODS), this is currently the only postponed construction project in Plzeň. However, given that today is the first day of quarantine, the city cannot say how other companies will behave.

"Eurovia has decided to start repairs when the situation is calmer," said Jan Muzika, the director of Eurovia's Plzeň branch and regional head of the Union of Entrepreneurs in Construction of the Czech Republic. "As long as everyone is not wearing masks on the streets, it is not good," he added.

"The whole (infection) situation is escalating now, and it is just a matter of time before someone from us or from the subcontractors appears who will test positive, and the whole construction will close down. I did not want to start something and then have to abandon it," Muzika stated. According to him, no construction company can guarantee to 100% ensure that the infection will not be brought in from somewhere. "It only takes one positive person who worked on the project or was in the construction control team, and they will shut down the entire site," he noted. According to Muzika, work must still take place, but everyone will temporarily work wearing masks.

According to ČTK, today the management of large construction companies is discussing the next steps for ongoing work. Small and medium-sized companies are awaiting their verdict.
