Prague - The company Mustela, owned by Austrian developer Wolfgang Müller, will complete the construction of a new multipurpose building in Prague's Wenceslas Square this September. This was announced today by the company MAX Immo, which is responsible for leasing and presenting the project. The amount of investment in the project was not disclosed. A completely new building is being constructed on Wenceslas Square next to the Koruna Palace. The building for offices and shops will be called Diamant, just like the building that stood there until its demolition in 2007. The original Diamant department store was established in 1895. The new project will offer 10,765 square meters of floor space. Of this, 3,510 square meters will be offices and 5,771 square meters will be shops. The rest will be luxury apartments. "I must disappoint potential buyers of individual apartments - we are negotiating with interested parties for leasing the entire package of apartments, which is also the option preferred by the investor," said Carlo Gradl, Executive Director of MAX Immo. Austrian builder Müller has also carried out projects in Hungary and Slovakia, in addition to Austria and the Czech Republic. In Prague, he owns several properties on Na Příkopě street, in addition to the Diamant project. The demolition of the original Diamant in 2007 took place without significant public protests. In contrast, a later plan to demolish the building at the corner of Wenceslas Square and Opletalova Street provoked more heated reactions. The possibility of demolishing the building was approved by former Minister of Culture Jiří Besser, while there is opposition from the public and some experts. The building, which is set to completely disappear to make way for a new commercial project, is considered by historians to be the work of notable architects and features neoclassical elements combined with cubism, making it unique. Therefore, they argue that it should remain standing. However, the building is not officially protected as a heritage site.
