Prague - Trams returned to Vodičkova Street in the center of Prague today at 19:35, after their operation was interrupted due to part of a building collapsing. CTK was informed about this by the spokesperson for the transport company, Michaela Kuchařová. According to the spokesperson of the company Metrostav, František Polák, trams will likely travel through Vodičkova Street at a speed of ten kilometers per hour and only in one direction for safety reasons until the end of the holidays. This will prevent the vibrations caused during travel from threatening the building, which is undergoing reconstruction. The spokesperson of the Prague City Hall, Jiří Wolf, stated that the side wall of the damaged building was torn down, and the façade facing the street is now secured from both sides. From the yard with a steel structure, which has already supported the front wall during the collapse of part of the inner walls, and from the street with heavy scaffolding that is tied to the steel structure. The building, which is commonly referred to as U Myšáka after the famous pastry shop, was built in 1881. It has since been reconstructed several times. The façade achieved its final form between 1921 and 1922. The building, constructed in the art deco style, is intended to retain its original appearance both outside and inside. This was already considered in the original reconstruction project presented last year by the Sekyra Group. The reconstruction is expected to be completed in September next year. The exact cause of the accident that occurred on Sunday morning, July 16, is still unknown. The police are also investigating the incident. Heritage conservators and structural engineers agree that the building had been in a state of emergency for a long time. Its stability was likely also threatened by the demolition of the neighboring structure. The building was returned in restitution in the 90s and was sold several times afterward. Its technical condition continued to deteriorate and the building fell into disrepair. The current owner is the joint-stock company Gallery Myšák. Its only shareholder is the Dutch company CEE BW Amsterdam. > Work ends at the building in the center of Prague, part of which collapsed > The building on Vodičkova Street will be completed according to its original appearance > The façade of the collapsed building on Vodičkova St. will be preserved > Architect: The building U Myšáka was built by Gočár in the esteemed art deco style > Workers are removing the roof of the collapsed building on Vodičkova Street > Heritage conservator fears that the investor will demolish the building on Vodičkova Street > Structural engineer: The wall with the façade of the building U Myšáka on Vodičkova Street will not fall > Part of the renovated building collapsed on Vodičkova Street in the center of Prague
