Cheb - The Cheb City Council has canceled support for housing construction. According to Cheb's deputy mayor Miroslav Plevný, it has lost its significance at this time. However, the city hall will seek other ways to support builders, Plevný said to reporters today.
    In previous years, the city provided, for example, a grant of 50,000 crowns if the builder completed the construction on time, and another 50,000 crowns could be awarded for the construction of utility connections.
    However, the end of housing construction support will not be immediate. Applicants who obtained building permits by the end of last year can still apply for the city grant. "It is possible that they counted on this amount. So in reality, the system will end over the course of two years," Plevný added.
    According to the city leadership, the grants to builders were not a sufficient motivation to stimulate housing construction. "People who wanted to build are building even without this money," Plevný believes.
    However, Cheb could support housing construction in other ways. For example, by subsidizing the price of land in areas where construction is in the city's interest. The options for how the city could support housing construction, if at all, should be assessed by the departments of the Cheb city hall.
    From the original support system, only one remains, which is the city grant for returning a city apartment. If a tenant returns a city apartment, they can receive up to 1,000 crowns per square meter of the apartment. However, the maximum is 100,000 crowns.
