Cheb - The area of the former brewery on Palackého Street in Cheb is awaiting demolition. The devastated buildings owned by the city are in a state of emergency, and the building office has already ordered measures to ensure safety. According to Mayor Pavel Vanoušek (ČSSD), the council will recommend to the representatives that they give consent for the demolition. It is estimated to cost over two million crowns.
"Previously, companies rented the buildings. Then an investor was interested in the entire area, but eventually withdrew from the contract. Now the buildings are unused and are still in worse condition," stated Vanoušek. According to the plan, the buildings would be demolished and the rubble would be used to fill underground spaces.
According to Vanoušek, the area would be suitable for the future construction of a new indoor swimming pool. The existing indoor pool in Cheb is already at the end of its lifespan, and its reconstruction would cost around 100 million crowns. The construction of a new one would then cost about 150 million crowns.
In the southwestern part of the site, there is still a private building that the city is also interested in. According to Vanoušek, talks have begun with the owner regarding a possible exchange for a house on Jungmannova Street.
The brewery complex is located near the city center, above the ice rink. According to city management, it has a suitable location for the construction of a pool due to its accessibility and proximity to other sports facilities.
