Brno - The city has returned to the intention of building a new municipal office building on the vacant lot on Benešova Street in Brno after a long time. Today, the city council approved a contribution of 300,000 crowns to the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno for the preparation of an architectural competition for the design of the new office. Participants in the competition will propose the first phase of the building for approximately 800 officials. In total, up to 2,200 could work there in the future, said Filip Poňuchálek, spokesman for the Brno City Hall, to ČTK.
The city leadership discussed the contribution for this year for preparation, which includes, for example, the processing of competition conditions or translations into English. The total costs for the competition are expected to be 8.3 million crowns. "Its purpose is primarily to find and appreciate the optimal solution for the architectural appearance and optimal layout of the first phase of the new building, which will subsequently allow to award the contract for the preparation of subsequent project work. Cost estimates will arise once the relevant documentation is processed," Poňuchálek stated.
In 2020, the city informed that it would have a study prepared that would provide more insight into the requirements for the planned central building with an estimated price of 1.8 billion crowns. It stated that the goal is to merge current workplaces, simplify people's visits to the office, or reduce operating costs. However, in the following years, the project was not among the priorities that the city hall focused on.
