Brno - The land, including buildings in the Sokol leisure center complex in Brno's Maloměřice between Obřanská and Franzova streets, will now belong to Brno. The city will purchase it from the Sokol unit for 24 million crowns. This way, the city helps the Sokol so that they do not lose the sports facility due to issues with funding.

The approval of the purchase of the sports complex of TJ Sokol Brno-Obřany-Maloměřice was recommended to the city council by the Brno City Council. The goal is to maintain the operation of the sports and social complex.

The Sokol unit fell behind schedule due to unexpected difficulties during construction. Consequently, they failed to submit the necessary documentation for the reimbursement of part of the funding on time.

"Without the help of the city of Brno, the Sokol unit would not be able to meet the sustainability conditions of the project and would have to return the entire subsidy. Brno would thus lose a heavily used sports facility," stated Richard Mrázek (ANO), the Deputy Mayor for property matters.

The authorities of the city of Brno, the city district, and the funding provider - Regional Operational Program Southeast - agreed that the city would purchase the complex and lease it to the Sokol unit.

The usual price of the property is 35 million crowns. After acquiring ownership, the city will subsequently lease the entire complex to the sports unit for 15 years with a three-month notice period. After that, the lease will change to an indefinite period with a six-month notice period. The annual rent will be 200,000 crowns.
