On Monday, December 2, 2019, at 5 PM, the ceremonial introduction of the new book Brno Modern II from the Paseka publishing house will take place in the lecture building MCMA in Brno. The entire author team consisting of Renata Vrabelová, Vladimír Šlapeta, Milan Jaroš, and Lukáš Žentel will participate in the christening. The roles of the godparents will be taken by Eva Rozehnalová and Josef Němec. The historical vicissitudes of the second half of the 20th century have left a perhaps surprisingly diverse mark on the face of the Moravian metropolis. Traces of socialism can be found in the housing estates of Brno's suburbs, the hotel Continental is a shining example of Brussels style, and the brutalist building of Ingstav in Štýřice has been regarded as one of the most successful Czech architectural realizations. The famous campus of Masaryk University in Bohunice, the town hall in Žabovřesky, and the Moravian Library demonstrate echoes of high-tech movement, postmodernism, and deconstructivism. The second part of the successful guide to Brno's architecture will introduce both famous and lesser-known buildings. The entries are again accompanied by photographs capturing the current state of the buildings, and the publication contains clear maps with marked objects and biographies of architects.
