Offcity architekti - Město a voda

The series of lectures and debates from the OFFCITY ARCHITECTS cycle will focus in 2026 on the theme of water as an element of public space. We will be interested in the significance of the banks of the Elbe and Chrudimka rivers, as well as water as an urban-forming phenomenon, which is addressed even outside the riverbeds. Experts from the fields of architecture, ecology, history, activists working with participatory processes, and water management professionals will present their roles in urban development, nature conservation, and the contemporary use of water for the quality of urban life for both human and non-human populations throughout the year. The lectures aim to connect the theme of water in the city from various perspectives and understand the issue interdisciplinarily.
This year's cycle will invite experts from various fields – personalities with diverse experiences, exploring and processing the topic of water in the city in different contexts and correlations, from various professional and personal positions. Our goal is to convey the issue of water in the city to the public in an open, understandable, and meaningful way, aiding in its comprehension.
The first to arrive in Pardubice will be representatives from the Office of Architecture of the City of Brno, Bibiana Janebová and Jan Dvořák, who will present the project Water in Brno. This involves extensive flood protection measures for the city of Brno using nature-based solutions. Last year, the first phase was successfully opened to the public in Brno. Come hear how the project has evolved over the years, what has succeeded and what hasn’t, and what the future plans are. The evening will be structured as a lecture, followed by a moderated debate.
