Brno - Brno will establish a working group of experts to negotiate with a private investor regarding the planned construction of a high-rise building on Lidická Street. This was stated today by councilor Filip Chvátal (KDU-ČSL) and managing director of the investment company Tomi invest Miroslav Kachlík. People in the area refer to the building, which is expected to be around 90 meters with an antenna, as a skyscraper and have drafted a petition against it. They have already gathered 4,500 signatures and submitted it to the city council.

Representatives of the city and the investor had a joint meeting. "We want to create an informal working group that would address the necessary adjustments to the project to make it permissible. We want to find a solution that all parties can agree on," said Chvátal.

As a councilor for urban planning, he disagrees with the current form of the project. "It is designed as a dominant tower behind a low building on the street. It does not align with the street front and does not complement anything in that block. It does not respect the surroundings," Chvátal stated.

According to Kachlík, the working group will include, besides the investor and politicians, experts from the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno, the Department of Heritage Care, and the Department of Urban Planning. "We want to find common ground. We perceive the uniqueness and quality of that land, and it is in our interest to create a dominant building that the land deserves due to its width and size," Kachlík told ČTK. However, he rejects the claim that a skyscraper would rise at the site; he believes it should be a high-rise building measuring around 80 meters and with an antenna over 90 meters, whereas skyscrapers are 100 meters and more. The building is expected to offer dozens of apartments and parking.

Local residents disagree with the construction and have drafted a petition against it. In early March, they submitted it to the city council with 4,500 signatures. According to the residents, the building would damage the surroundings.

The tallest building in Brno and in the Czech Republic is the AZ Tower, standing at 111 meters.
