Brno - Residents of Brno are drafting a petition against the construction of two apartment buildings in the courtyard of Bezručova, Křídlovická, and Nové sady streets in the city center. According to the residents of Bezručova 21, who are the main organizers of the petition, the two buildings, which could be up to seven stories high, will disrupt the quiet and recreational zone. So far, they have gathered 300 signatures and plan to present the petition to Mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD). They also intend to resist in court, informed one of the residents of Bezručova 21, Monika Findoráková. The relevant building authority currently has no applications regarding the construction of these buildings.
The department of urban planning and development of the magistrate already issued a positive opinion last year regarding the possibility of building the structures. "This is the first step toward the construction of the buildings. This would completely destroy the character of the courtyard as a quiet and recreational area serving the residents of the adjacent apartment buildings," Findoráková stated. According to her, traffic in the vicinity of the buildings would worsen, along with the quality of life during and after the construction, as well as the quality of the environment.
According to the spokesman for the magistrate, Pavel Žára, while the department of urban planning and development has issued an opinion, the final approval of the construction lies with the building authority of the respective district. In this case, it is Brno-střed. "The building authority of Brno-střed currently does not have any submissions or requests regarding the construction of buildings in the courtyard of Bezručova, Křídlovická, and Nové sady, so it cannot comment," said the spokesman for the Brno-střed city hall, Roman Burian.
"Even though there is no application at the building authority, we already know who wants to build what there. Therefore, we want to prevent everything in time," said Findoráková.
According to Burian, the city hall of the relevant district will respond within the legal deadline if people send the petition to them. "Most comments can also be made during the planning process, which the owners of the surrounding properties will have the right to do," Burian added.
