Bohumín (Karvinsko) - Bohumín in the Karviná region is preparing to build a new multipurpose sports hall for approximately 70 million crowns. Construction is planned to begin next to the local aquacenter this September, and it could be completed next summer. The town intends to take a fifty-million crown loan for the construction, said the town hall spokeswoman Lucie Balcarová today to ČTK.
The prefabricated hall without windows will be built on an area of 3,715 square meters where the former dog training ground was located. "Inside, there will be a lobby with a reception, four courts, changing rooms, and restroom facilities for athletes, as well as technical facilities for staff," noted Balcarová.
The first court made of laminated PVC will be used for handball, floorball, futsal, basketball, or volleyball. If necessary, four badminton courts can be set up on it. The central court with artificial turf will be used for soccer or footvolley. There will also be a tennis court and an additional separate room for badminton or other sports activities such as aerobics.
Individual courts will be separated by retractable nets six to seven meters high. The hall will include seating for 180 people. In front of the complex, 19 parking spaces will be added, and during matches, visitors will be able to use parking near the aquacenter or the winter stadium.
"Originally, we had a project for a sports hall in a similar architectural style to the aquacenter for about 85 million crowns, but with only one court. In the end, however, we prioritized efficiency, and for less money, we will have four courts instead of one, plus with much lower operating costs," stated Mayor Petr Vícha (ČSSD).
He added that besides local sports clubs, the new hall will also be available for primary and secondary schools or clubs from the vicinity, which do not have similar facilities.
