Blansko - The town hall in Blansko will soon rid itself of its biggest burden - the dilapidated tallest building in the city, which stands in its center. On Tuesday, local councilors will select one of three companies to sell the property after two years of protracted negotiations. On Thursday, the councilors agreed on this, said Deputy Mayor Jindřich Král to ČTK today. The ten-story building is expected to be reconstructed. Repairs will likely begin later this year.

The building from the 1970s is in poor technical condition. It has long represented a significant problem for the city. The cost of its repair is estimated at 100 million crowns. The city even considered demolishing the building in 2005. However, that would cost ten million crowns. The town hall does not have the funds for these projects. It is also not possible to obtain financing from European Union funds for the project. Therefore, the city decided to sell the property.
Two years ago, a marathon of endless negotiations began. Initially, no one was interested in the building, then only one interested party emerged that wanted to create public toilets in the property. After this joke, the town hall had to announce more competitions to offer the building.
Ultimately, six companies expressed interest in it. Three of them subsequently made it to the shortlist. All offer similar amounts, which according to the councilors are "in the order of several million crowns".
The companies also have similar intentions for the building. Shops are to be created on the ground floor, with offices above, and apartments on the upper floors. However, the internal layout of the property is so unfortunate that the building will need to be dismantled down to its basic metal frame, and this skeleton will then be used for new construction.
