British minimalist John Pawson is the author of the set design for the one-act ballet Chroma, which had its world premiere last November at London's Royal Opera House. The choreographer was Wayne McGregor. The music, composed by the Detroit rock duo The White Stripes, was conducted by John Talbot during the performance. Pawson's stage design features a simple white proscenium with a backlit rectangular cutout. Pawson characterizes his project as “the stage project utilizes architectural motifs of inside and outside, entry and exit, light and shadow, emptiness and fullness to create a spatially charged environment that is explored through the bodies of the dancers.” Link>
