Australia will have its own Stonehenge

Perth (Australia) - An Australian entrepreneur wants to build a replica of the English megalithic site Stonehenge in his homeland, aiming to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors, including modern druids and followers of the New Age movement. This was reported by the AP agency today.
    According to its creator Ross Smith, the attraction will be opened on his land in Western Australia by December 21 of this year, when the summer solstice begins in the southern hemisphere. The cost for 101 granite stones, arranged in an outer and inner circle around a central altar, will reach 1.4 million Australian dollars (approximately 20.6 million CZK).
    "I will build it because I can," Smith succinctly answered the question of why he decided to undertake the construction. He chose the name Henge for it, which is an English term referring to prehistoric ritual monuments of a circular shape, surrounded by a ditch and a bank, the most famous example of which is Stonehenge itself.
    "I studied the plans of the original and that's exactly how my Henge will look," declared Smith. According to him, no one in the world has yet thought of building a complete replica of the English Stonehenge. Entrance fees will be charged upon entry, and interested parties will be able to rent the site for various purposes, including weddings. Smith estimates that his business plan will attract 200,000 to 300,000 visitors annually.
The real Stonehenge was created between 3000 and 1600 BC and is one of the most significant tourist attractions in the world. At the same time, it has a spiritual significance for followers of the New Age movement and neo-Celtic religion, who gather in the thousands near it every year on June 21 to celebrate the summer solstice, applicable to the northern hemisphere.
