Kroměříž - The exhibition titled Famous Villas of the Zlín Region presents the pearls of modern architecture, which is on display from today at the Gallery in the arcade of the Kroměříž Museum. The exhibition showcases luxurious houses from Baťa's Zlín, functionalist works, as well as villa buildings from recent years. Jiří Stránský, the museum director, said this to ČTK. The exhibition will last until November 16. The exhibition is accompanied by the publication of the same name, capturing fifty of these structures. Kroměříž itself is represented in the book and the exhibition by four significant objects. "These include, for example, a functionalist villa near Bezruč Park and a neo-functional villa at Barbořina," noted Stránský. The exhibition features a number of architectural and interior details, as well as models of selected villa buildings created by students from the Faculty of Architecture at VUT Brno and the Secondary School of Civil Engineering in Valašské Meziříčí. According to the authors of the exhibition, who are historians and architects, housing for the upper and middle classes in villa buildings constructed in all larger towns in the region and representing the development of architecture as well as the individual history of significant personalities was deliberately overlooked in the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition and the book aim to rectify this shortcoming. Visitors will see buildings designed before World War I by Hubert Gessner, Dušan Jurkovič, and Jan Kotěra, villas by Jaroslav Stockar-Bernkopf, Josef Místecký, and local builders from the era of national style and the garden city movement. Individual buildings from Baťa's Zlín designed by František L. Gahura and Vladimír Karfík, as well as functionalist buildings by Lubomír and Čestmír Šlapeta, Bohumír Kupka, Ludvík Hilgert, and Jaroslav Grunt, are also highlighted. The exhibition also includes an exceptional group of villas from the 1950s by the Zlín architect Zdeněk Plesník for travelers Hanzelka and Zikmund and composer Liška. The exhibition and the book are part of the project Famous Villas of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. The exhibition Famous Villas of the Zlín Region was first presented in May in Zlín, and was subsequently viewed by visitors in Valašské Meziříčí.
