The mountain hotel and television transmitter on Ještěd, Labská bouda, the Karlovy Vary Thermal hotel, the Kotva department store, the train station building Ostrava-Vítkovice, and others – the National Technical Library (NTK) invites you through its website to a 3D tour of the exhibition The Best of Czech Architecture of the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition was created as a joint project of the NTK Gallery and the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ), which has been dedicated to the exhibition as part of a long-term project focused on the values of modern architecture of the 1960s and 1970s as a part of the national and cultural identity of the Czech Republic.

The 3D exhibition brings the beauty and uniqueness of both well-known and those overlooked or forgotten creative works of that time closer to its visitors from the comfort of their homes. It showcases the works of prominent architects such as Karel Prager, the Machonin couple, Karel Hubáček, Karel Filsak, and Josef Danda. The buildings created during the mentioned period represent a significant phase in the history of Czech architecture, when after a period of post-war stabilization and the adoption of Soviet models in the form of historicizing styles of the 1950s, there was a temporary political relaxation and a significant expansion of architectural creation, seeking its new form and reflecting international trends.

The aim of the project and the exhibition is to demonstrate that this architecture, often simplistically labeled as ideological, frequently exhibits formal, architectural, and material values of a high level and that the effort to preserve it for future generations as a testimony to the material and cultural heritage of the time is meaningful and justified.

The exhibition at the NTK Gallery is complemented by large-format photographs, as well as textual documents and models of selected buildings from the collections of the National Gallery, among which the hotel and transmitter in Liberec on Ještěd dominate. A lavish two-volume publication accompanying the exhibition is available for sale in selected bookstores, in the e-shop of the National Heritage Institute, and is also accessible to readers in the NTK collection.
