"I close my eyes and become the sound. I listen to the response of a friend,
whose skin encloses the space. Skin of concrete, skin of glass, of wood ..."

On Thursday, November 30th, the last event of the year was inaugurated at the CNA Gallery, the presentation of Marek Pražák's "audiovisual collection," connecting distant yet close locations: New York's Harlem and a part of Ostrava's Vítkovice known as Jeremenko.

    Location Jeremenko - Location Harlem
    Marek Pražák

"To exist in space, the feeling of definitive inseparability.
Contamination by the surrounding place, its sounds, receiving odors, rhythms.
Together seemingly unrelated pressures and demands.
The path from point to point, around grids and soft materials.
Two paths, two walks, two times, from point to point.
Similar contents, similar functions, trudging, artificial lighting, falling light."

A photographic strip, almost a film strip, which seemed to "wrap" the gallery space, mapped both locations and offered a view of them through the eyes of a poet: marvelous nooks, forgotten courtyards, melancholy structures. "Contamination by the place."
Uniquely "Pražák-like" was the visual accompaniment during this walk through the suburbs: a large-scale projection of a kind of documentary film shot directly THERE, of which the author was not only the director but also an actor, commentator, and "sound maker" and media effects creator. A light-hearted look at a burdensome life?

The entire event of the opening was accompanied by the pleasant aroma of cooked sausages, as the hot dog is inseparable from Harlem - and this opportunity to indulge was also afforded to all esteemed visitors that evening. If Marek Pražák aimed to convince us that every space has its song that day, then it must be said that besides a plethora of audiovisual experiences, he also imparted the insight that some spaces may have their own taste and smell.

Sculptor, designer, scenographer, musician, lives and works alternately in Ostrava and the Balkans. A graduate of the VŠUP in Prague, he engages in free creation, sculpture, and applied arts. In the field of design, he focuses on "details" in architecture, sculpture, and solitary design. Individual works are scattered across public and private spaces in several European countries.

The exhibition will last until January 31, 2007, and is accessible on weekdays from 9 AM to 4 PM. The sausages will be gone, but the song of the space can still be sought.
