Brno – The Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) is preparing to sign a contract with a designer who will ensure the first stage of documentation for the modernization of the Brno-Židenice station. This is the initial step in the overall modernization of the railway hub, the main part of which is the relocation of the main station to the site of the current lower station, said Mojmír Nejezchleb, Deputy for Railway Modernization, at a press conference today. In an ideal scenario, construction in Židenice could begin in 2023.
SŽDC is also preparing an architectural competition with the city for the design of the new main station, which will address both the transportation layout of the station and the design of the ticketing hall, the forecourt, and the adjacent urban infrastructure. "We would like to announce it in February. The winner will then further develop the design,” Nejezchleb stated.
