Competition "Trenčín - City on the River"

The city of Trenčín (Slovakia) announces the preparation of an attractive urban competition for the regeneration of the riverbank and the search for a comfortable connection between the historic center and both banks of the river.
Trenčín (55 thousand inhabitants) is a compact historic city located on the Váh River, the administrative center of the Trenčín region and a natural dominant of the broader region. It has a strategic location on the border with the Czech Republic and is only an hour's drive from the capital, Bratislava. It boasts a unique panorama of a watchtower castle perched on a rock, an interesting history, and a pleasant atmosphere. Trenčín is currently facing changes related to the relocation of the railway line in the direct center of the city, which is currently taking place as part of the modernization of the European railway corridor, scheduled for completion by 2015.
The city leadership is therefore seeking fresh, modern, and innovative urban solutions for the new development planning of the city.
The winning proposal will be selected by a highly qualified jury composed of architects, urban planners, and city representatives. It will be used as a basis for the development of the area’s zoning plan. According to all indications, this is the most important urban competition in Slovakia in many years.
