In the final of the urban-planning and architectural competition for the design of the new Žofinka district in Ostrava, the jury awarded two proposals as equally high-quality and granted them the same first place. The winners are the Prague office Pavel Hnilička Architects+Planners and the Danish atelier ADEPT, which participated in the competition together with Czech offices atelier.tečka, landscape architects VEN.KU architekti, studio ohboi, and transportation office VECTURA Pardubice.
The aim of the urban-planning and architectural competition was to find an optimal urban solution for a new district with predominantly residential character. Žofinka aims to offer quality public spaces and architecture, ample greenery, and a wide range of apartments of varying standards for residents of all age groups, with different needs and economic possibilities. The new district will also include civic amenities, services, shops, a kindergarten and primary school, as well as job opportunities.
The results of the competition were officially announced on June 6 by representatives of the client company Pod Žofinkou Holding, along with the Mayor of Ostrava Jan Dohnal and Deputy Mayor Lucie Baránková Vilamová. The jury decided to award the following prizes:
1st place: Pavel Hnilička Architects+Planners (CZ)
"Both winning teams presented very high-quality proposals and agreed on the main principles for solving the area, particularly regarding the relationship of the new district to its surroundings,” describes architect Filip Tittl from UNIT architekti, chairman of the competition jury.
