Bamboo is probably not a material that Czech architects often work with in their designs; however, if you feel like trying out a somewhat unconventional competition assignment, you can register for the competition 2006/2007 International Bamboo Building Design Competition.
You can submit competition designs in one of the announced categories (in addition to standard family homes, pavilions, etc., there are also categories like tree houses) and the designs must be intended for a specific geographical area (there are 18 options, central Europe is not included).
Designs must be submitted by January 15, 2007. The best designs across categories will be awarded 5,000, 3,000, and 2,000 USD respectively. As is common in American competitions, there is a registration fee of 100 USD, 50 USD for students, and 25 USD for students from developing countries. Next year, the best works will be included in a forthcoming book about bamboo houses.
