Hradec Králové will announce a competition for the idea of a new land use plan

Hradec Králové - The city hall of Hradec Králové, which has a population of one hundred thousand, will announce a competition in a few weeks for the idea of a new urban development plan for the city. Architects from all over Europe will be able to apply. The results of the competition, which will cost about seven million crowns, should be known approximately by mid-year. This will be followed by the creation of the actual urban development plan. The city expects to receive around 30 proposals. This was stated today by the city hall deputy Josef Malíř.
    The urban development plan is a fundamental document for the development of the city. Currently, the city and investors are guided by the urban plan from 2000. According to Malíř, every city in the Czech Republic must have a new urban development plan prepared by the end of 2015, or must revise the current one. Hradec has decided to create a new plan. This would then dictate construction in the city for several more decades.
    The conceptual design should indicate whether the city should develop towards the future D11 highway or to the south towards nearby Pardubice. The study should also reveal whether a classic industrial zone should be established in Hradec, which is not included in the current urban plan. Until now, the city's development has been directed westward towards the future highway.
    The conceptual design will be evaluated by a professional jury, with the final decision made by the council and city assembly. "A separate competition will subsequently be announced for the actual development of the urban plan. The winner will need to transfer the winning idea into a concrete urban plan," Malíř said. The costs of preparing the actual urban plan are estimated at 20 million crowns.
    The creators of the conceptual design will be practically limited only to preserving the basic transport arteries and watercourses. However, according to the city hall, they should also take into account the city's strategic plan or studies on demographic development in the city.
