The company Autodesk, a global leader in 2D and 3D design software for manufacturing, construction, media, and entertainment, in collaboration with the Cabinet of Model Projecting of the Faculty of Architecture of Czech Technical University (MOLAB), announces the 2nd year of the anonymous public competition Revit Open. The competition is intended for students and newly also for recent graduates (within 3 years after graduation) with a focus on construction and architecture in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The goal is to create a design for an energy self-sufficient building for a meteorological station at Králický Sněžník in the Štvanice area.
“Revit OPEN 2008 – Independent House, Králický Sněžník” is a public, conceptual, single-round competition intended for individuals or two-member teams. The proposed building should represent a specialized scientific station with continuous year-round operation, suitably situated in the Králický Sněžník Protected Landscape Area. The location is known for its beautiful views of its own mountain range, the Hrubý Jeseník, and the Rychleby Mountains.
The building should show minimal operating costs, minimal operating burden on the environment, and its nature should lean towards a low-energy house. For the processing of the design and its presentation, competitors must use Autodesk software. By using Revit Architecture software, they receive a total additional bonus evaluation.
“We decided to announce the second year of the competition, which was very successful among students. We continue to focus on supporting students’ familiarity with the global trend that we call ‘sustainable design’ at Autodesk,” says Patrik Minks, the chairman of the Revit Open jury and business manager for construction solutions at Autodesk. “Additionally, we strive for students, i.e., future architects, to learn to collaborate in teams with civil engineers, technicians, and specialized professions.”
Applications for the competition can be submitted until September 30, 2008, and the final submission date has been set for November 3, 2008. The authors of the best designs will receive prizes in the form of commercial licenses for Revit Architecture software (or 3ds Max Design), laptops, and a digital SLR camera. A workshop REVIT OPEN will be held at the Faculty of Art and Architecture of TU Liberec from September 8 to 11, 2008, for registered participants. More information about the competition, along with registration for competitors, can be found at: www.revitopen.cz.
