Terminal of public transport, Klatovy

A new multimodal public transport terminal has been created in the immediate vicinity of the railway station in Klatovy. The current station building, designed by architect Josef Danda in 1959, represents a quality example of post-war architecture influenced by the Brussels style. Its composition and forecourt area are based on a strictly symmetrical arrangement framed by two colonnades, originally designed as roofing for the first railway platform and bus stops.
The architectural design of the terminal by knesl kynčl architekti ideologically, spatially, and expressively continues this composition. The new architecture respects the original spatial order and scale, but utilizes contemporary expressive means and technologies. The original design worked with two new colonnades mirroring the original roofing in a contemporary architectural expression. During the implementation, the colonnades were shortened for economic reasons, and their length was supplemented by seven smaller canopies designed in the same architectural spirit.
The forecourt area is dedicated exclusively to public transport, taxi services, and a K+R regime, while the P+R parking lot is located separately with access from Nádražní Street. The terminal's facilities use the reconstructed historic station building. The transport solution ensures comfortable transfers between rail, regional bus, and city transport, creating a dignified entrance to the city and the entire Šumava area.
