Sýkořice - The Dřevíč Castle, where politician, diplomat, and descendant of the famous noble family Karel Schwarzenberg lived, is being sold by the real estate agency Svoboda & Williams for 65 million crowns. It is a baroque building located in the Křivoklát forests near Sýkořice in the Rakovnicko region. The house from the early 18th century is surrounded by a 25-hectare plot, which includes a small wooden pavilion, the St. Hubert Chapel, and the original wooden gazebo with a bathing pond, as the advertisement states. The website Echo24 highlighted it.
"The house has recessed windows, all living rooms have wooden floors, and the entrance doors were designed by architect Bořek Šípek. The interior of the auxiliary building (guest house) was expensively reconstructed in 2017 under the guidance of a renowned architectural studio," states the advertisement. In addition to the castle and guest house, there is also a caretaker's house among the residential buildings.
According to the Echo24 website, the castle currently belongs to Robert Schmiedlehner, who is a likely family member of the deceased aristocrat, and Schwarzenberg named him as the beneficiary in a gift agreement in case of death in 2014.
Karel Schwarzenberg came from the Orlická branch of the ancient noble family; before 1918, the Schwarzenbergs were among the wealthiest in Europe. Karel Schwarzenberg was, for example, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a senator, or a candidate in the first direct election for the Czech presidency. He died on November 12, 2023, at the age of 85. During normalization, he supported the Czechoslovak dissidence, and after November 1989, he became the head of President Václav Havel's office.
