Velká Bíteš – The town of Velká Bíteš in the Žďár region has announced a tender for the preparation of an architectural study for the reconstruction of the post office building. The call for tenders was published by the municipality on its website. They agreed with Czech Post on the purchase of this large building in the center for 30 million crowns. The study should address its modifications and uses for small services, a basic art school, sports, and apartments.
In Velká Bíteš, with a population of 5,500, the Post Partner service will start operating on May 4. "At the moment the city launches this service, we will sign the purchase agreement for the building," said Mayor Marcela Lavická (for KDU-ČSL) in response to a question from ČTK.
The telecommunications and post office building is located at the corner of Kostelní and Lánice streets, with the entrance to the post office from Masarykova Square. The building was constructed between 1971 and 1974. "The building is situated on a sloping terrain on Kostelní street and was designed as a system of four ascending cubes," states the tender documentation. The building with a flat roof has four floors and a basement. The materials used are in accordance with the period of its construction.
The post office is opposite the former brewery, which the municipality has now renovated with the help of a grant, transforming it into a cultural center. The municipal library relocated to the new premises at the end of last year. According to the mayor, the entire complex will be ceremonially opened in May.
The brewery was closed in 1942 and then served as a warehouse for the Starobrno brewery for a while. In the 1950s and 60s, it was converted into a residential building. The apartments have been empty since 2018.
