Ostrava – A home with a special regime has opened in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm in the Nový Jičín region. It is intended for seniors with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. The capacity of the facility is 30 places. The project cost more than 135 million crowns. The Moravian-Silesian region obtained 80 million crowns from the National Recovery Plan for it. Miroslava Chlebounová from the press department of the regional office informed journalists about this today.

The new service will be operated by the regional contributory organization Domov Hortenzie. The building has 24 single rooms and three double rooms for clients. The rooms are divided into six communities, so-called households. Each of them includes a living room with a kitchenette and dining area.

"This facility conceptually aligns with the latest trends in residential social services, which emphasize individual care, support for clients' independence, and the creation of an environment as close as possible to normal home life,” said Stanislav Kopecký, the deputy governor for social affairs (ANO).

In addition to providing meals and assistance with hygiene, the home will offer, for example, activation or social therapeutic activities, or help with personal matters. There will be 36 employees taking care of the seniors.

Construction of the home began in the summer of 2024 and was completed last November. This was followed by the furnishing of the spaces. Clients began moving in at the beginning of the month. The establishment of the home cost 135.8 million crowns. The construction cost 115 million crowns, another 16 million crowns went to furnishing, and the remaining costs were allocated for supervision, project work, or feasibility studies.

"I am pleased that Domov Hortenzie has expanded with this beautiful facility. Clients will retain a sense of privacy here and have the opportunity to arrange their environment according to their identity, wishes, interests, lifestyle, and daily activities. Our staff will approach each of them individually,” said the director of Domov Hortenzie, Marian Žárský.
