The city's councillors discussed the Brno Building Regulations, which are set to take effect from July

Brno - The Brno city councillors discussed the concept of Brno's building regulations. The document will take into account the character of Brno and establish more precise standards and requirements than the national directives. It is expected to come into effect on July 1, in accordance with the new building law. From this date, the regulations will become mandatory for all builders, designers, and authorities involved in the permitting process, the city hall announced on its website.

"The issuance of Brno's building regulations is made possible by the new building law, which brought the opportunity to adopt local regulations for the three largest cities in the Czech Republic. Once approved, the document will allow for the character of a large city to be taken into account and establish more precise standards and requirements than those specified in the national regulations, and it can contribute to speeding up the building process," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS). The city expects that the document will be a significant tool to simplify orientation in the validity of regulations.

The concept is awaiting discussion in the next few months during a comment procedure with individual city districts and relevant authorities. "After addressing the comments, it will be presented to the Brno city councillors for approval and subsequent issuance in May," said Councillor for Urban Planning and Development Petr Bořecký (ANO).

The regulations are intended to contribute to the development of the city in accordance with sustainability principles. "We place great emphasis on the preservation and development of landscape, urban, and architectural values of the area, as well as on improving the quality of the urban environment. Last but not least, the regulations further support the planting of street tree rows or the use of blue-green infrastructure, among other things, the retention and infiltration of rainwater," added Jan Tesárek, director of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno, which, together with the city hall, ensured the preparation of the document.
