Rokytnice nad Jizerou - The long-abandoned area of the Rotextile textile factory in the center of Rokytnice nad Jizerou in Semily has a chance for revitalization again. The investment group Trigema plans to build a hotel, recreation, and residential complex with a capacity of about 1,350 beds. The project, which is currently under an environmental impact assessment (EIA), is supported by the city. It should offer services that are lacking in Rokytnice, said Mayor Petr Matyáš (Mayors for the Liberec Region) today.
The two-hectare area of the former textile factory is located in the Krkonošsko ski resort just about 100 meters from the Lower Square, between a regional second-class road and the Huťský stream. It is within the protective zone of the Krkonošsko National Park. "Our condition is that there should be a hotel created there, which is missing in Rokytnice, with services such as a pool, a conference hall, and so on," added Matyáš. According to him, the proposal complies with the third amendment to the zoning plan, which is currently under review by the city council, and the council could approve it within four months, according to the mayor.
In the past, the textile factory in Rokytnice housed the Pojizerské Woolen Mills Semily, the state enterprise Kapnar, the state enterprise Seba, and most recently Rotextile. Textile production in the Rokytnice area ended in 2006. Most of the buildings gradually disappeared from the site, leaving the Art Nouveau factory building from 1910 with a central tower, which housed a water tank. Around 2012, a private investor intended to convert the factory into a sports, relaxation, and shopping center, with accommodation and parking, but the plan ultimately fell through.
The investment group Trigema now wants to supplement the central industrial building of the former textile mill with modern extensions from the north and a single-story addition, transforming it into a four-star hotel with 324 beds, a rooftop wellness area, and a pool. The area is also expected to have four standalone apartment buildings along the Huťský stream and a ten-building complex called Krkonošská vesnice. The plan anticipates parking spaces for 550 cars, more than 500 of which will be underground. If everything goes well, work could begin next year. The area will offer around 130 jobs.
Rokytnice nad Jizerou in the western Krkonoš is the largest winter resort in the Liberec Region with 12 kilometers of downhill slopes. The town, with 2,500 inhabitants, offers approximately 3,150 beds mainly in guesthouses, hotels, and tourist accommodations, according to data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ). There is currently no four-star hotel in the town, and the town is also struggling with a lack of parking spaces.
