Brno - The residents of Brno's Starý Lískovec might soon have a renovated swimming pool after several years. The long-planned reconstruction is now awaiting a building permit, Mayor Vladan Krásný (ODS) informed in the municipal newsletter. The original plan was to open the renovated pool by this June, but according to the mayor, the process was delayed by changes in building legislation.

After the renovations, the pool will receive a new 50-meter stainless steel basin, which workers will install into the existing concrete. "It will have four sections. The first will be for children, with small slides, but it will not be a wading pool, which we will build separately. The second part will be a relaxation area, with whirlpools. The third section will be for swimming and the fourth is planned to have slides and a toboggan," Krásný added for ČTK.

The old buildings on the site will be demolished, and the entire infrastructure will be rebuilt. There will be space for refreshments. A small children's playground is also planned. Krásný stated that the renovations of the pool have been under discussion in the municipal area for nearly 20 years, and it has been closed for about three seasons. According to him, preparations were also complicated by disputes over the land in the area.

The mayor could not predict when the office might issue the building permit. However, according to him, this step should be followed by a tender for the contractor, and other steps leading to the start of work should not take too long, the mayor anticipates.

The reconstruction is expected to cost about 90 million crowns. "I managed to negotiate that the city will finance it, with our share of 20 million crowns. The Investment Department will handle the entire tender process, and then it will be operated by the municipal company Starez, which has experience with this," Krásný added.
