<Městská knihovna ve Vysokém Mýtě> will function in temporary premises for about a year

Vysoké Mýto – The City Library in Vysoké Mýto will operate in temporary spaces for about a year. The city is renovating its current building, so it had to move to the first floor of the former coach museum. It will start functioning in the new location on Monday, August 3, said Mayor František Jiraský (Independents) to ČTK.

"Everything is prepared. I think it fully meets the parameters of a library, including a children's corner and a reading room, which is in a secluded corner for peace. Considering that this is temporary, it's good," Jiraský stated.

The City Library is located on the ground floor of the building on Litomyšlská street, where the M-club is also situated. The building has undergone several renovations in the past, with the last major reconstruction taking place in 1992. Vysoké Mýto plans to modernize the library as a multifunctional space for community gatherings, for teaching students from elementary and kindergarten schools, and for more intimate cultural events. Visitors can also look forward to seating with coffee or light refreshments.

According to the design by architect Radek Schwab from the LBNK architects studio, the work will include construction modifications, transforming the interior, and creating a new atrium. The aim of the reconstruction is to clarify the spaces, connect the individual parts, and create an accessible environment. The outdoor atrium will be formed by an annex that will offer multipurpose spaces for lectures, author readings, and leisure activities. The reconstruction will also bring more comfort to library staff, from new offices to technical equipment.

The building was taken over by a construction company on July 1. Currently, it is demolishing some partitions and internal structures. The city hall selected a contractor that offered a price of 44.9 million crowns, which is about ten percent less than the project's budget anticipated. The costs will be covered from the city's budget, as no subsidy for the project has been obtained. Completion of the reconstruction is planned for June next year, and the library will begin operations in the new space in September 2027.

The coach museum in the square has been empty since the end of last year; it moved to new premises in the Technical Museum. In the future, other exhibitions could be placed there.
