Hradec Králové – Regional councilors today increased the budget for the modernization of the hospital in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. After the completion of all construction work and the acquisition of technologies, the budget increased by 15 million crowns to 1.265 billion crowns, said the spokesperson for the regional government, Dan Lechmann, to ČTK today. According to him, the reason for the budget increase is mainly unforeseen construction work. The operation of the multidisciplinary unit in the hospital premises, which aims to improve the accessibility and quality of acute care in Rychnov region, began in the spring.
The investment is part of the project for the development of the Solnice–Kvasiny industrial zone, where the Škoda Auto car manufacturer operates. "To complete the investment project at the Rychnov hospital, it was necessary to increase the financial commitment for securing construction work by 10.5 million crowns, for equipping furniture and medical technology by 3.5 million, and for processing project documentation and ensuring authorial supervision by one million crowns. The total increase therefore amounts to 15 million crowns," Lechmann told ČTK.
The construction of the multidisciplinary emergency reception pavilion, the five-story extension of the gynecology and obstetrics pavilion, and the reconstruction of two floors of the original connecting building began in the spring of 2023. Both buildings have been newly connected into a multifunctional unit. The reconstruction and completion of the hospital also included the construction of more than 200 parking spaces, an energy center, and a medical gases facility.
The main construction work included the construction of the five-story pavilion. The extension created space for the emergency reception, including patient triage linked to an internal and specialized examination room, an operating room for minor procedures and a plaster room, an intensive care unit, an anesthesiology and resuscitation department, four central operating rooms with an associated operation, a surgical ward, and an orthopedic ward.
The investment also included the reconstruction of two floors of the original children's department pavilion, internal medicine, gynecology, and obstetrics. The modernization also concerned the oncology day care unit, outpatient examination room with waiting room, endoscopy examination room, and central sterilization.
The Rychnov hospital employs over 500 staff, provides care in 11 medical fields, and has a capacity of 250 beds. It is a natural healthcare background for the Solnice–Kvasiny industrial zone, where more than 11,000 people work. At the same time, it provides healthcare for the second largest district in the region and the tourist area of the Orlické Mountains.
The Hradec Králové Region has hospitals in Trutnov, Jičín, Dvůr Králové nad Labem, and Náchod. The Rychnov hospital is also under the Náchod hospital. The largest medical facility in the region is the state Faculty Hospital in Hradec Králové.
