Brno - The St. Elizabeth Hospice in Brno plans to renovate and expand its headquarters for 70 million crowns in order to expand services for patients, for example, those with Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia. The reconstruction will create 21 rooms with 23 beds. Brno will provide five million crowns for this and will lend 15 million, which the hospice will then pay back using funds obtained from the state and the region. The mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková (ODS), told ČTK today. Pavel Kosorin confirmed the information about the reconstruction to ČTK on behalf of the hospice.
The reconstruction and expansion of services is expected to cost 70 million, of which about half has been obtained from the European Union. "We will support it with five million and provide another 15 million as a repayable loan. They will pay us back, but for now, they have only applied for funds from the region and the state; they haven’t been granted anything yet," Vaňková stated.
According to her, the hospice will receive around 35 million from the European Union. "It should be noted that they have also managed to obtain funds from private investors," Vaňková noted.
The hospice, which cares for dying people, has a capacity of 22 beds and provided care for more than 200 clients two years ago. In addition, it also offers home hospice services through Tabita, which cared for more than 230 patients two years ago, with doctors, nurses, or social workers visiting them at home. The hospice also has a counseling service and a loan service for medical equipment. Its new investment aims to provide assistance to patients with severe cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer's disease or dementia. These patients are mostly cared for by family members, and the new hospice spaces with more than 20 rooms will serve patients until their care is once again taken over by family members.
