Brno - Brno will allocate five million crowns for the expansion of services and reconstruction of the St. Elizabeth Hospice. This was approved today by the city councilors. The costs will be around 70 million crowns. Brno had previously approved a loan of 15 million crowns to the hospice, which the organization will return from funds obtained from the state and the region. The hospice is expected to cover half of the costs with a grant from the European Union.

The hospice cares for dying individuals. The new investment aims to also assist patients with severe forms of cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer's disease or dementia. These patients are mostly cared for by family members, and the new spaces of the hospice with more than 20 rooms are intended to serve patients until their care is taken over again by family members.

The hospice currently has a capacity of 22 beds. Two years ago, it provided care to more than 200 clients. It also offers home hospice services, which cared for over 230 patients two years ago, with doctors, nurses, or social workers visiting them directly at home. The hospice also has a counseling service and a rental service for medical equipment.
