Hlinsko - The town of Hlinsko in the Chrudim region started repairing the old swimming pool in June, converting it into a biotope, where the water will be cleaned by plants rather than chemical agents. The work will be completed next spring. Miroslav Krčil (independent for the ČSSD) told ČTK.
"I have received positive feedback from 99 percent of people regarding the biotope swimming pool," said Krčil. The nearest traditional swimming pools are nearby in Skuteč or Chrudim, the mayor added.
The construction company is performing earthworks, establishing the biological part of the swimming pool. Most of the work will be completed this year. The cleaning zone will be separate and connected to the bathing zone by a play stream.
The former swimming pool has been closed since the 1980s. It consisted of a water reservoir with concrete foundations and diving boards. The operation of a biotope swimming pool is cheaper and more suitable for allergy sufferers who are sensitive to chlorine.
The biotope swimming pool will cost nearly 36 million crowns. It will also have changing rooms, showers, restrooms, a building with refreshments, and a children's playground. The town expects a modest entrance fee.
The town is designing the area as a recreational zone and is also preparing for the revitalization of the neighboring park for next year. "We have planned two volleyball courts there, which we will gradually build over time," said Krčil.
