Prague - The leadership of Prague 7 has urged the city council to buy the land in the Bubny-Zátory brownfield from its current owner, the CPI group. The city could build affordable housing on it. This was reported by the spokesperson of Prague 7, Martin Vokus. The councilors of the seventh district based their views on media reports indicating that the owner of the company is considering selling it or selling this land. The newspaper e15 reported this. According to the article, the price of the land should be around ten billion crowns.

Prague City Councilor for Property Adam Zábranský (Pirates) believes that a potential sale of the land in Bubny would be a great opportunity for the city as well. He justified this, among other reasons, by stating that it is one of the largest remaining brownfields in Prague. According to him, it makes sense for the city to own part of the building land, similar to developed metropolises. "Prague has long struggled with a low proportion of municipal housing, which is around four percent, and given the ongoing privatization of municipal property by Prague's districts, the situation is further deteriorating," stated the councilor. He added that the city therefore wants to negotiate with CPI and hopes they will be able to meet soon.

"This area is one of the last opportunities for the city to actively influence the development of its territory in a large centrally located area, including conditions for affordable housing, public services, parks, and civic amenities," said the Deputy Mayor of Prague 7 Lenka Burgerová (Prague Yours), who is responsible for urban development, regarding the Bubny-Zátory brownfield. According to her, the area has significant strategic importance, is close to the center, well-served by public transport, and has connections to key transport hubs. At the same time, it has sufficient capacity to develop a diverse and complete urban district.

"This is an opportunity that the leadership of Prague should immediately seize. Such a chance will never arise again. The housing crisis in Prague has already reached a critical threshold. If we miss this opportunity, rents will continue to rise, and the situation will only worsen," said the chairman of Prague Yours Adam Scheinherr.

Bubny-Zátory, together with, for example, the Žižkov Freight Station or the Smíchov station, is one of the so-called major development areas in the metropolis. In the new district, up to 25,000 people could live in the future. There will be residential as well as administrative buildings, a park, and a concert hall near the C subway station Vltavská. The area will be served by railway with several stops.
